investors with an independent evaluation of our approach to
sustainable development, and encourage transparent disclosure of
non-financial information within our industry.
Anglo American awarded Platinum status in the 2013 Corporate Responsibility Index
Business in the Community is a UK charity that provides a platform for businesses to make a positive impact in society. Its 850 members commit to improve the way in which they manage their resources and collaborate to share knowledge and experience, and develop responsible business practice that addresses social and environmental needs.
Anglo American's involvement with the BITC CR Index
In 2013, Anglo American was awarded Platinum status for the third consecutive year and also achieved the “Platinum Plus Big Tick”, We are among 30 leading UK companies, and the only mining group to secure the coveted Platinum ranking, which recognises companies for embedding corporate responsibility across their business, with incentive structures at Board and operational levels and considerable stakeholder engagement.
In 2011, Anglo American was runner up in the BITC’s Responsible Business of the Year Award.
We have been a member of Business in the Community since 2000, and have taken part in the Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility Index each year since its launch in 2002. The index is based on 69 questions that assess the extent to which corporate strategy is integrated into responsible business practice.
