Anglo American awarded Platinum status in the 2012 Corporate Responsibility Index
Business in the Community is a UK charity that provides a platform for businesses to make a positive impact in society.
Its members commit to improve the way in which they manage their resources and collaborate to share knowledge and experience, and develop responsible business practice that addresses social and environmental needs.
In 2012, Anglo American was awarded Platinum status for the third consecutive year. We are among 30 leading UK companies, and the only mining group to secure the coveted Platinum ranking, which recognises companies for embedding corporate responsibility across their business, with incentive structures at Board and operational levels and considerable stakeholder engagement.
In 2010, Anglo American supported Business in the Community with the Anglo American Responsible Supply Chain Award. This award recognises companies that demonstrate how managing responsibility in the supply chain and treating suppliers as partners can create business benefits for companies and its suppliers, as well as positive impacts for other stakeholders such as the wider community.
We have been a member of Business in the Community since 2000, and have taken part in the Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility Index each year since its launch in 2002. The index is based on 69 questions that assess the extent to which corporate strategy is integrated into responsible business practice.
The charity has more than 850 members, representing one in five of the UK private sector workforce. A further 3,000 companies are engaged through its programmes and campaigns which operate through a local network of more than a hundred business-led partnerships. The charity leads a global partners network of 112 organisations operating in more than 60 countries.
