Anglo American voluntarily contributes to a number of
sustainability indices that benchmark and track the performance of
the most socially responsible companies. Such indices provide
investors with an independent evaluation of our approach to
sustainable development, and encourage transparent disclosure of
non-financial information within our industry.
For over a decade, FTSE has calculated responsible investment indices and has played an active role in all the major regional sustainable investment industry associations. As a founding signatory, FTSE helped develop the United Nations-backed Principles on Responsible Investment (PRI).
FTSE's Responsible Investment team, together with the independent FTSE4Good Index Policy Committee, develops the robust index criteria through an extensive consultation process with independent experts including NGOs, governmental bodies, consultants, academics, investors and the corporate sector. The criteria help investors to identify companies that minimise social and environmental risks. Companies with larger risks and impacts have to meet more challenging requirements.
Anglo American's involvement in the FTSE4Good Index
Anglo American's commitment to sustainability was first recognised by FTSE in 2011 through our inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index, the index of companies that meet a series of stringent corporate responsibility standards. Anglo American has maintained our standing on the Index since 2011.
