Flip the SCAM: A simple way to protect yourself

If you’re ever unsure about whether an email, message or website is legitimate, use the SCAM method to stay one step ahead of fraudsters:

S – Stop
Pause before clicking, replying or taking any action. Scammers often create urgency to make you act without thinking.

C – Check
Examine the details. Look for signs of phishing or impersonation. Does the message come from an official source? Are there spelling errors, suspicious links or requests for personal information?

A – Act
If something feels off, trust your instincts and take action. Report it to our official channels and delete the message.

M – Manage
Keep your information safe. Use strong passwords, update your software and be cautious of what you share online.

By staying alert and following these steps, you can help protect yourself and others from online scams.

Avoid online scams

We want to inform our online community about recent ‘phishing’ scams in which scammers try to extract personal information or money by misrepresenting themselves as Anglo American through a series of spoof websites.

These types of scams may be facilitated through:

  • Unsolicited emails with malicious links
  • Social Media videos (i.e. on YouTube) inviting people to invest
  • WhatsApp channels claiming to be official Anglo American representatives promising guaranteed return on investments

How to spot an Official Anglo American asset

  • A full list of our official websites can be found on www.angloamerican.com under the menu title ‘Our websites’, if a website is not found on this list, it is not an official Anglo American website
