As a long established, respected mining company we have made clear and public commitments to sustainability. We expect all suppliers of goods and services, including our contractors, to comply with legal regulations, site and Responsible Sourcing requirements when working with us.

Responsible Sourcing supports our Supply Chain to prioritise ethical decision-making when selecting and working with suppliers of goods and services.

Suppliers are critical partners who support our operations to produce materials safely and transparently. We therefore expect all suppliers to engage in lawful, fair and ethical business practices seeking to eradicate all forms of safety, modern slavery, environmental, human and labour risks across their value chains – requiring evidence of due diligence1 throughout our business relationship.

We expect suppliers to comply with all relevant laws, industry regulations, policies, site requirements and other supply conditions when delivering goods or services to our business.

Suppliers describes all providers of goods and services to Anglo American and its subsidiaries - this includes all agents, traders, contractors, consultants and other forms of intermediaries.

All suppliers are expected to:

  • Protect safety and health
  • Protect our environment
  • Respect labour and human rights
  • Contribute to thriving communities
  • Conduct business fairly and with integrity

We are committed to working with our suppliers – and prospective suppliers - to increase the awareness of our business requirements including Responsible Sourcing.

Supplier requirements

To guide suppliers, our Responsible Sourcing Standard for Suppliers acts as a ‘Supplier Code of Conduct’, setting out the rules and expectations of our suppliers. Responsible Sourcing is a mandatory requirement for all suppliers and is embedded in our supplier management processes and contracting arrangements.

In summary, all suppliers are required to:

  1. Commit to fair and ethical business practices
As a precondition to supply, suppliers are required to agree to, and comply with relevant laws and Anglo American Policies including the Responsible Sourcing requirements.

  2. Complete Self-Assessment Questionnaires (SAQ) and provide requested information
Suppliers will be required to complete a SAQ using an online platform, and routinely make updates to the information. Additionally, suppliers will be required to make annual updates to their SAP Ariba profile, this may include provision of attestations, or other related disclosures on activities to mitigate modern slavery, forced labour or other human rights impacts within your value chain.

  3. Provide evidence of 3rd Party Assessment
Suppliers may be required to provide evidence of previously conducted responsible sourcing assessments, or be requested to conduct a new, third party assessment.

  4. Manage and close out risk
Where Responsible Sourcing risk has been identified - including any breaches to the Standard - suppliers are required to inform Anglo American, develop corrective action plans with realistic timelines to address them and provide feedback on progress.
